Karen S. Calhoun will present an interactive workshop that will cover the role of the library and how it is changing with budget cuts, personnel losses, reorganization, shifting work patterns, and innovative ideas. The program will address the concerns of directors, professional librarians, and support staff.

Ms. Calhoun is the Assistant University Librarian for Organizational Development and Assessment in the University Library System of the University of Pittsburgh.

Before coming to Pittsburgh in July 2011, she held leadership positions as Vice President of WorldCat and Metadata Services at OCLC Online Computer Library Center, and Senior Associate University Librarian for IT and Technical Services and Associate University Librarian at Cornell University Library. Prior to that she held other management and professional specialist positions at Cornell, OCLC, and the University of Oregon Library. During her first tenure at OCLC she earned an MBA at Franklin University.

She has been a librarian since 1983, when she earned her M.S. in library and information science from what is now known as the Drexel University iSchool. Her career has focused on academic research libraries and global library cooperatives with partic ular emphasis on setting strategic direction, introducing innovation and organizational change, and revitalizing library services for the digital age.
